"My grandmother is already 75 years old. She was a well known radio broadcaster in Beijing. Her job was very demanding and time-consuming. That was why she almost did not have any holidays or free weekends. But I knew that she enjoyed her work very much.
I must say that her enthusiasm and commitment in the work have far-reaching influence on my life. My interest in mass media was mainly aroused by my grandmother. I recalled that when I was 7, she gave me a radio. I was then very curious about that 'machine'. She explained to me that, through broadcasting, a lot of useful information could be disseminated to the public. In the process, many people who needed help were assisted in many ways. She always taught me, tactfully and patiently, how to conduct interviews and write news. As I mentioned earlier, that was how I got into this great profession. Last but not least, my grandmother always helped me solve problems which I encountered throughout my career. Because of her, I am who I am today, and able to stand on my own feet.

Five years ago, however, my grandmother lost (both?) her eyesight. My family and I were very saddened by that development. But, the eyesight's owner herself -my grandmother-on the contrary, she remained strong and cheerful. She kept telling me that we must live our lives to the fullest--with smiles and joy.
