Our country is currently a developing country and is also an argriculture-based country. More than a half of middle and primary school students now study in rural country schools. Nowadays, seeming developing towadrs merit, knowledge, physical helth, arts and industrial work, rural schools are actually going on a study-for-test education (或者 exam-oriented education); so -called "comprehensive and balance development" is nothing but a meaningless slogan. Yet, rural schools often confront with troubles, such as the scarcity of textbooks and lack of qualified teachers. Rural education is now far less motivated and the government and schools are still unaware of the vital role of arts education. Moreover, schools need to meet the demand of entering a higher level school for advanced study, especially the pressure of entering colleges and universities, and do not pay attention to arts education, threby forcing arts education of rural mid-schools and primary schools into difficulty and knottiness.

As a developing country that maintains a large agricultural sector, over half of the primary and secondary students in China attend schools in the rural area. Although these schools advocate a comprehensive quality education that aims at developing the moral, academic, physical, artistic and industrious capacities of the students, many students are only attendants of examination-oriented classes. This makes quality education an empty slogan. Take the arts class in rural secondary schools as an example, its development has been fettered by all sorts of difficulties, including insufficient provision of text-books and qualified teachers. With their inertia, schools and local governments of the rural area are unaware of the importance of art education, which is further dispensed with as a result of the keen competition for higher education opportunities. Arts education in primary and secondary schools in the rural area of China is hence trapped in a highly unfavourable environment.
