A schoolboy stole a book from one of his schoolmates and brought it home to his mother. Instead of punishing him, she praised him for having done it as a good deed. As time went on the boy now grew into a man. He began to steal things of greater value. At last he was caught in the very act and was sentenced to death.
On the way to the execution ground seeing his mother following among the crowd, crying and beating her breast, he begged the officers to give him a chance to speak one word in her ear. Having been permitted, he agree for his mother coming near. She quickly put her ear to her son’s mouth . He seized it tightly between his teeth and bit a part off. Upon this she let out a scream of pain. The crowd following her all scolded him for the last unusual act. But he replied, “It is she who is the cause of my crime; for if when I stole my schoolmate’s book and brought it to her, she had given me a good beating, I should never have so grown as to ended my life too early.”
