For life or for death, however separated,
To our wives we pleadged our word.
We held their hands;---
We are to grow old together with them.
2.Bernhard Karlgren
In death or life (we are) separated and far apart;
With you I made an agreement:
I grasped your hand,
Together with you I was to grow old.
To stay together till death and end
for far, for near, hand, oath, accord:
Never alive
will we keep that word.
I want to hold your hand
and with you I will grow old.

1.From native speaker (Jennings):
But, though far to be served in death or live,
We are bound by the pledge each gave to his wife;
And we vowed, as we stand then hand in hand,
By each other in life's last years to stand.
2.From Chinese scholar (Xu):
Meet or part, live or die,
We've made oath, you and I.
Give me your hand I'll hold,
And live with me till old.
To stay together till death and end
for far, for near, hand, oath, accord:
Never alive
will we keep that word.
I want to hold your hand
and with you I will grow old.
To hold your hand
To grow old with you
James
Legge
For
life
or
for
death,
however
separated,
To
our
wives
we
pleadged
our
word.
We
held
their
hands;---
We
are
to
grow
old
together
with
them.
Bernhard
Karlgren
In
death
or
life
(we
are)
separated
and
far
apart;
With
you
I
made
an
agreement:
I
grasped
your
hand,
Together
with
you
I
was
to
grow
old.
无论生死,不管离分得天涯海角;
Ezra
To
stay
together
till
death
and
end
for
far,
for
near,
hand,
oath,
accord:
Never
alive
will
we
keep
that
word.
Henry
I
want
to
hold
your
hand
and
with
you
I
will
grow
old.
To
hold
your
hand
To
grow
old
with
you
my
hand,
take
my
life
too(抓住我的手,也抓走我的生命),而是说“我要抓住你的手”,求爱因此是一种承诺。
James
Legge
For
life
or
for
death,
however
separated,
To
our
wives
we
pleadged
our
word.
We
held
their
hands;---
We
are
to
grow
old
together
with
them.
Bernhard
Karlgren
In
death
or
life
(we
are)
separated
and
far
apart;
With
you
I
made
an
agreement:
I
grasped
your
hand,
Together
with
you
I
was
to
grow
old.
Ezra
Pound
To
stay
together
till
death
and
end
for
far,
for
near,
hand,
oath,
accord:
Never
alive
will
we
keep
that
word.
I
want
to
hold
your
hand
and
with
you
I
will
grow
old.
To
hold
your
hand
To
grow
old
with
you
take
your
hand
and
accompany
you
to
the
end
of
my
life.
Hold
your
hand,
till
death
do
we
part.
I
will
hold
your
hand,And
together
we
grow
old.
Take
your
hands
and
grow
old
with
you
I'll
take
your
hand
and
accompany
you
to
the
end
of
my
life.
Hold
your
hands,
and
become
old
with
you
