On April 14, 2010, an earthquake occurred at 07:49am in Yushu area, Qinghai province, with magnitude of 711 and focal depth of 14km. The epicenter is located around Jiegu Town, Yushu County. The earthquake damage shows a belt type distribution along the active fault zone and the rupture length under ground fault is about 60km. The earthquake fault, which exposed the earth surface and across the Jiegu Town where the local government is located, lengthens 1917km and the earthquake intensity reached 9 degrees. After preliminary investigation, the scope of the Yushu earthquake affected about 30,000 km2, mainly caused damages to some areas in Yushu and Chengduo County. The seriously destroyed area is about900km2, mainly focused on Jiegu Town, and the hardest-hit area is about 4 000km2. To further clarify the house-collapse in the earthquake and thus guide the seismic design for earthquake proofing construction, some suggestions that worth considering were drawn from the investigation and analysis of the current destroy and collapse situation of the architectural construction.
