1.One of the most wellknown fires in history was the Great Fire of London. This took place in 1996, and destroyed almost the whole city. The fire started in the house of the king’s baker（烘炉）, John Farynor, at two o’clock on the morning of September 2nd. Farynor lived in a narrow, crowded street, where all the houses were made of wood, so the fire spread very quickly. The city was on fire for five days. By the time the fire had been put out, 13,200 houses, 88 churches, 4 bridges, 4 prisons and 400 streets had been destroyed. Amazingly, only six people lost their lives in the Great Fire of London.
