I think New Concept English is one of the most comprehensive textbooks on the market. As you progress through the lessons, you would learn vocabulary, construct sentences and express your thoughts in a coherent way.
NCE is also immensely entertaining. I remembered passages in NCE3 covering topics from the Greek kuros to the new year resolutions. The concept of text-learning is probably ancient, but what's new about these textbooks is that the texts are often adapted from stories written first-hand by English speakers. They offer you a taste of real English.
You might find helpful videos from youku.com. On a personal level, NCE3 was and still is a treasure trove. Even now when I reread some of its texts, I'm still amazed by how much there remains for me to learn as an English student.
