When Socrates meets Confucius
--Will Confucius change Socrates`fate?
After hearing my subtitle ,one question slip in some audience`s mind :why should Confucius change Socrates`fate?As we all know that ,Confucius and Socrates are both thinkers and educaters ,what they did is really similar,but their fates are extremly different –confuius was worshiped,while socrates was sentenced to death.So I start to wonder if the two gaints meet,would socrates`life be saved and his fate be the same as confucius`?Now ,let`s suppouse that what if Confucius would be the judge of Socrates`sentence.
“Before the setence,I just state some of my views.As a thinker ,we should know that the superior man, in the world, does not set his mind either for anything, or against anything; what he follows is what is right.” Confucius states
“honorable judges,nothing on the earth would persuade me to give up pursuing the individual`s freedom and real happiness of my heart.As a thinker and educator ,we also should know the balance of learning and thinking-- Learning without thought is labour lost; thought without learning is perilous.Today,I can die.but If the people be led by laws, and uniformity sought to be given them by punishments, they will try to avoid the punishment, but have no sense of shame.city-state is separating,because they start realizing humanity which is something can`t be controlled by any others except their heart..”socrates sliences.

At this moment ,there maybe another question in some audience`mind – how can Confucius free the socrates?they have so many differences-they serving for different classes ,living in different ages and having different attitudes towards authority.okay,I just answer the question with a question—can`t western and eastern culture mix well together just because of their huge difference?of course,they can.gobalization is the product of their mixture which benefits everyone.Actually ,to some extent ,Socrates and confucius represent western and eastern culture respectively. not only can they get along well with each other ,but also they can spark some new ideas.so if Confucius and Socrates really meet and finally free the Socrates ,what Confucius changes is far from Confuius`fate ,and even ours.This is because their great minds which can advance the process of civilization just like two shine star in the sky to guide us pursuing the happiness and truth of life. 展开
