On July 13th, 2001 at the 112th IOC meeting in Moscow, Beijing was elected the Host City for the Fames of the 29th Olympiad in 2008.The Games will take place from 8 till 24 August 2008 and play host to 28 sports. About 10,500 athletes are expected to take part in the Games, and around 20,000 media will work on site to cover the Games.

The mascots are a special gift that Beijing presents to the world and to the Olympic Movement. They express the Chinese people's wishes for peace, friendship, progress and harmony.
