As far as I am concerned, it depends on the various types of market.
In competitive market, producer surplus may be as the same as its profit.
In imperfect market - monopoly, oligopoly, and monopolistically competitive markets, they are of great significence. economic profit should be a small share of producer surplus which includes total margin and amount compensated various factors.
