　　no matter what 是复合连词，用来引导让步状语从句，其中的what 是代词或形容词，在从句中充当主语、宾语和表语、或者定语。

　　whatever 是连接性代词性和形容词，既可以引导让步状语从句，也可以引导名词性从句。同 what一样，whatever 在从句中充当主语、宾语、表语或定语。

　　由是可知，如果 whatever引导的是让步状语从句，可以用no matter what 取代；如果引导的是名词从句，则不能用 no matter what 取代。例如：

　　Whatever happens, we'll meet here tonight.
　　 ——No matter what happens,we'll meet here tonight.
