By taking the advantage of the high temporal resolution of MODIS, the surface temperature product is used to analyze the long-time heat island problem four times a day. The analysis of the spatial distribution characteristics made by using the annual mean and that of the time variation characteristics (made) by using the temperature level variation, the result of the statistical anaysis on the 2002~2015 urban heat island characteristics in Lanzhou City indicates that:
(1) the urban heat island of Lanzhou is mainly distributed in the urban areas located in the central river valley and its surrounding low-lying areas, and extends northward year by year ;
(2) the 2002-2015 heat island area continues to increase. The cumulative growth is 83km2 in the high temperature zone, the annual growth rate ( is) 0.05% and the annual growth trend for area (is) 143.03km2. The area of the sub high temperature increases 41.23km2 per year and the cumulative growth is 802km2. The gowth of the heat island tends to be slow;
(3) the monthly variation of the heat island in Lanzhou is roughly the cosine function, the peak value appears in March and June, the heat island vatiation is also significant and basically flat from July to October. The heat island variation of Lanzhou City is the most significant in summer, followed by spring and autumn. The heat island effect is the weakest in winter. whose area of the high temperature is separately 4694km2, 4511km2, 4356km2 and 1452km2.
