Culture Smart or Science Intelligent
Good afternoon, honorable judges.
Culture smart or science intelligent? My point is that both of them are vital to the development of the society.
Looking back to the history, thanks to the intelligence of science and technology, the world has changed dramatically within a few hundreds of years ever since the Industrial Revolution. However, in chasing after science advancing, problems such as environmental pollution, global warming, even conflicts and local wars came about together, and have kept damaging our mother nature. Consequently, we are harming our own habitat.
Meanwhile, Cultures, those unique characteristics, are things defining our past and present. The smart of culture, on one hand, provides us a fascinating world with literature, music, and art; on the other hand, it keeps our society from getting itself lost. However, take China, a country used only to stick to the its culture for thousands of years, eventually suffered from the disasters of poor development in the 19th century.
In fact, “culture smart” and “science intelligent” are both indispensible for our society. A society emphasizing one while neglecting the other will lead to unbalanced developing and in the end destroy itself.
The journey of human being is like sailing on the sea. Without science, it loses its power moving forward, but without culture, it loses its direction. Culture serves as a cradle nurturing science, ensuring it grow in a healthy way, while science in turn promotes the prosperity of culture. To some extent, those remarkable achievements in human history have always been made by people who combined science and culture. Newton, making outstanding contribution to science, was also a philosopher. While Einstein, the most prominent physicist of the 20th century, was also good at playing the violin.
In today’s world, the intelligence of science keeps the society advancing at a high speed, while the smart of culture maintain us a harmonious environment. Only we know how to balance the relationship between science and culture can we live in a lasting stability and prosperity.
