accept sth as sth 承认/接受sth是/视为sth
Please accept this gift as a sign of my gratitude.请接受这份礼物,以表示我的感激之情。
但是句子里这种 accept as sth 很少见。
as是英语最难的部分之一,这句话我也想了很久,看到很多猜想
1、as是 coordinate conj,理解为though或者and,连接两个动作。He well founded the charge made by some of his critics.一会说他创立,又说made by批评者,不通顺。
2、as是adv,所以有人说是 as well founded 是parenthesis(插入语),但是插入语通常要有comma(,),只有疑问句中没有comma。
3,as 是 prep,as well founded 解释成宾补,这是最合理的即使,as 取介词词性,构成介词短语,但是prep phrase(介词短语)的结构是“ a prep+(adj)+a noun” 。因为这里走不下去了,我也差点因此认为是插入语。但是,as后接形容词、过去分词,被认为是省略了动名词being. as well founded 是prep phrase
4.倒装(inversion)。但是倒装无论是部分(partial inversion)——subject主语和linking verb助动词倒;还是全部(complete inversion)谓语predicate放在subject主语前,因为它是强调结果所以前置,都是到句子开头,不会中间倒一下。
5.宾语后移(postponing of the object.)。这句话的宾语太长了, the charge made by some of his critics that,所以后置了。
He 【subject】didn't accept【predicate】 the charge 【object】(made by some of his critics that)【定语】as well founded【object complement】.主-谓-宾-宾补。
类似用法举例:He would not accept as authoritative the answers which the adults about himoffered in response to his questions.
他不认为周围的那些成年人对他提出的问题给予的回答是绝对可信的。
额外的话:
一般判断adv还是prep:Some words may be used as either prepositions or adverbs. If a word has a noun or a pronoun as its object, then the word is a preposition. If a word does not have an object, the word is an adverb.
1、Above the surface of the water, the towers rise to a height of nearly 700 feet. (as preposition)
2、I heard a strange sound coming from the room above. (as adverb)
但是本题的as是个例外。
把它当作另类的没有逗号的插入语先跳过再翻译;或者当作特殊的“倒装”按你想的排序也能翻译出来。
而且这句子宾语后置 本来应该是he didn't accept the charge as well founded
他认为这些指责缺乏根据
made by some of his critics that, while he was a good observer he had no power of reasoning 这一长串修饰的是the charge
就是因为后面的太长了 才把charge后置了

这是一个倒装句。原来的顺序是He didn't accept the charge as well founded [ 定语 made by some of his critics that ]
made by some of his critics that 修饰 the charge
那为什么“He didn't accept the charge.”要翻译成“他认为这种指责缺乏依据”而不是“他不接受这个指责”呢?
这个是翻译中约定俗成的规则,要结合汉语的特点和习惯来翻译。句子“他不认为这种指责有很好的依据”一般都翻译为“他认为这种指责缺乏依据”

He didn't accept the charge made by some of his critics as well founded,但因为过长,头重脚轻,即影响所谓美感,所以一般习惯于将其后置
这个类型的属于 v. + pron.+BA
正常的语序则应该为 v.+A+pron.+B
v.->accept
pron.->as
A->the charge (made by some of his critics 修饰charge)
B->well founded
