Abstract
If vehicles can be morecomfortable, safe, energy efficient and humanized, it will be very
beneficial. This studyintroduces an ‘‘Airflow Management’’ technique to control the airflow
in the vehicle cabin forthe purpose of achieving a regional steady-state temperature. With this
new concept, eachpassenger in a different area of the compartment can be satisfied with
respect to his/herunique temperature demands. The airflow is controlled by air inlets andoutlets,
with fans for themodulation of airflow directions and rates. The temperature in each zone
can be controlled by themodulation of the airflow. The concepts in this study are relevant to
all kinds of regionalair-conditioning in any enclosed space.
