There was another round of cannon fire and I heard the tattle tale sound of a chain shot, whistling and clinking in the air ((this being two cannon balls tied together with a chain aimed for the mask to take it down.)) I heard it hit the mask and look up just in time to see Mason body as he tried to jump clear when a large splinter of the mask impaled him through the chest.

I watch in horror as sailors were dieing on the deck, some jumping into the water being suck down by the weight of their clothes or by the ship. The captain still standing behind the wheel of his ship as she started under with a the thundering, belching noise of water filling her up.
