怎么改？为什么呢？

More than one house were damage.
这个改错题 were改为was解释不了原因？
这个more than one。。怎么理解啊？

答：house是单数，形式上是，就象Many a house, Every house作主语一样。你不要只想到中文的复数意思。

不必改为were caught in
met with有遭遇的意思。当然后者更好。

it‘s a pity that 后面用虚拟语气，should+do。
例句：It is a pity that we should not meet last night. 真遗憾我们昨天晚上没有见过面。
改为：It was a pity that we should meet with a heavy rain and fail to catch the early train.

more than one 与 many a 用法一样。二者都表示“许多，一个又一个的”的意思，但是其后的谓语动词要用单数。LZ记住用法就行了……
例句：We've been here many a time.
我们这儿已来过多次。
