essential是必不可少的意思，”必不可少的因素“是根据essential翻译的。lack of physical and mental energy和sentiment（感情）就是那两个reasons，both...这句是插入的。可以先不看这一句，结构就很清楚：people also accumulate things for two other reasons, lack of physical and mental energy and sentiment。人们积攒东西还有两个原因，身心无力和感情因素。

插入句中的：turning out 和throwing away对应“清除无用的东西”，turn out是把东西腾出来，throw away是丢东西。
