题目：Many people think it takes time and money to preserve the old buildings. We should knock down the old buildings instead of build modern ones. To some extent do you agree of disagree?

With the rapid development of the society, whether the old buildings should be tore down has caused an intense controversy. Some people hold the opinion that modern buildings should be built to replace the old ones, while others have an opposite opinion.

On one hand, some people think that the old buildings deserve to be preserved because they are of great value. Firstly, some old buildings are human beings' cultural heritage, which should be studied and researched. For example, schools could use these as the best materials for the sake of education. Also, eve;ry descendants can learn numerous things from their ancestors through these old buildings. Secondly, many old buildings have become tourist spots which attract a vast number of visitors from both home and abroad. In this way, the old buildings probably bring more financial benefits than the maintenance costs.

On the other hand, some people claim that it takes too much time and money to preserve the old buildings, which is unworthy. This view makes sense to some extent because, for certain old buildings, the preservation costs are way more than the value of both teaching and visiting. It is pointless to preserve these old buildings. Moreover, the modern buildings have some functions which cannot be substituted. Consequently, the old buildings have to be demolished to give space to modern ones.

In conclusion, there is no simple answer to whether the old buildings should be tore down or not. It depends on the exact circumstances. People should try their best to preserve the old buildings of historic value and know down the rest.
