The roaring fire was set deep into the huge fireplace, the mantelpiece of which stuck out from the wall and even had small hooks along the base, presumably for hanging Christmas stockings on. The sofa was opposite it, so we had two sides of the fort already made. The tall chairs around the dining table would serve as the rest.

I used rubber bands I'd stolen from the cutlery drawer to attach one edge of the largest sheet to the hooks on the fireplace.
I attached the sheet to the backs of the chairs so that we had a roof to our fort. It didn't reach all the way to the floor, though, so we used smaller sheets to enclose the space after throwing pillows and food inside.
