第一句是，one graphic illustration to which chirdren might readily relate is estimate that rainforests are being destroyed at a rate equivalent to one thousand football fields every forty minutes.
接下来第二句，they gave no indication og an appreciation of either tje range of ways in which rainforests are important or the complex social,economic and political facors which drive the activities which are destroying the rainforests.

主干是：一个图表显示（预示）了XXX。
这个图表是儿童都很容易理解的；
这个图表预示：热带雨林正在被毁，怎么被毁呢？以一个速度，以什么速度呢？（省略了that is）每40分钟毁掉1000个足球场（橄榄球场）的速度。
不用解读语法了吧再？关键是语义。
第二句：they gave no indication of an appreciation of either the range of ways in which rainforests are important or the complex social,economic and political factors which drive the activities which are destroying the rainforests.
我原来写了个essay给老外改，老外没找出错，就把我的几个长句子全部改短了，根本不是人话。
这些句子不难，但就是影响沟通。呵呵
主干就是：它们没有对于支持（某个观点）给出提示（暗示的倾向）。什么样的支持（认同）呢？of 后面就是来描述它的。
either既没有对雨林重要性给予任何维度的认同倾向，or也没有在复杂的社会经济政治因素方面给予认同倾向。
最后两个从句纯属无聊。这是些神马复杂的因素呢？这些因素 which drive the activities，驱动一些行动。
驱动神马行动呢？驱动（加速）毁掉雨林的行动。
翻译通顺点就是：
它们既没有表现出在任何层面的对于雨林重要性的认同倾向，也没有提示出对于那些加速雨林毁灭的各种复杂政治社会经济因素的认同。
